
Places to visit
Haddon Hall is a mediaeval hall that has been scarcely altered since its building. The terraced rose gardens are spectacular in summer.
Hardwick Hall is one of the finest Elizabethan houses in the country and is preserved by the National Trust. Inside a great deal of the original decorative details has survived, including some intricate tapestries.
You may also choose to visit Calke Abbey, Lyme Hall or Kedleston, all within easy reach.
Henmore Grange is ideally located to visit the market towns of Ashbourne, Leek, Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock. Each have something special to offer.
Ashbourne is a lovely market town with a good range of shops, art shops, antique shops etc. Buxton has fine Victorian and Edwardian buildings, a large park and a range of collectors fairs in the Pavilion Gardens or entertainments in the Opera House. Bakewell is, of course, home of the Bakewell Pudding and well worth exploring.
The former Spa town of Matlock has a lot to offer and the spectacular location of Matlock Bath is the setting for a mining museum, cable car rides and show caves.

Carsington Water has something for everybody. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, cycle trails (around the reservoir - 8 miles). Most equipment can be hired. Fly fishing for brown trout, lovely walks and excellent bird watching facilities. Super children's play area and a restaurant overlooking the water.

Cycle Hire
All types of cycles are available for hire from the Carsington Reservoir Visitor Centre including those with baby seats and also towed baby buggies For those wishing to tackle the Tissington Trail, cycle hire is available at the bottom of the trail 4 minutes north of Ashbourne, call 01335 343316.
